CREEW in United Nation University (UNU-IAS) 2019 leadership program in Quezon City, The Philippines

Er. Pratik Singh Thakuri, CREEW research, and project officer participated in 2019 leadership program themed ‘Engineering approach to disaster risk reduction and management towards sustainable development in the Asia- Pacific region’ jointly organized by United Nations University-Institute of Advanced Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and National Engineering Centre, University of Philippines from 24 N0v 2019- 29 Nov 2019 in Quezon City, The Philippines.

Series of guest lectures in the various topics namely Sendai Framework on DRR, Multi-stakeholder participation, System and life-cycle analysis, Multi-Criteria Decision Making Tools (MCDM), Vulnerability Mapping, Sustainable Energy Technology, Social Impact Assessments and Resilient structures were the core part of the program. In addition, there was a field trip to observe and learn the disaster preparedness and resilience measure adopted by Marikina City, the Philippines (the city which was completely devastated by typhoon Ondoy in 2009.

Er. Pratik along with 20 participants from 15different countries all over from South Asia (Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), South-East Asia (The Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia), Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Magnolia),   East Asia (China and Japan), and West Asia (Syria) shared ideas, knowledge, and experiences regarding ways to combat the common problem of disaster hazards and vulnerability of the region.
