CREEW delegates attended the 20th Anniversary Ceremony of Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF), Japan held from 24-25 August 2017 in Tokyo. Delegates from CREEW were Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey, President, Dr. Sangam Shrestha, Founding President, and Dr. Rabin Malla, Executive Director. On 24th August, a visit was made to the Kurita Global Technology Center. It was a great and rare opportunity to learn from the introductory presentation about the center, see and interact with researchers about their research and development carried out on wastewater treatment and purification, ultra pure water, and water chemicals using the cutting edge technologies. On the same day, Dr. Rabin Malla delivered a presentation on Nepal’s water environment sector and contribution of CREEW on water environment research and capacity building of young researchers and professionals.On a closing ceremony day, in an international symposium session keynote lecture on ‘Water and Development’ was made by Emeritus Prof. Dr. Motoyuki Suzuki. It was followed by introduction of the 20th Anniversary Commemorative Research Project ‘Sustainable Water Use in Development of Southeast Asian Countries’ by Prof. Dr. Koichi Fujie. The project leaders from Southeast Asian countries-Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, introduced their wastewater projects.Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey in his congratulatory note briefly delivered presentation about impact of long-term partnership of CREEW and KWEF in water environment research and capacity building in Nepal. Dr. Sangam Shrestha finally handed over a memoir on ‘CREEW-KWEF Cooperation’ and a token of love and appreciation to Mr. Toshiyuki Nakai, the President of KWEF and Mr. Michiya Kadota, the President of Kurita Water Industries Ltd.
KWEF has been supporting CREEW for water environment research and capacity building since 2008.
