CREEW adds five more to its research grantee’s list

As part of the CREEW Research Grant Program (CREEW-RGP), the 9th CREEW-RGP commenced with the proposal presentation by selected applicants on 27th January 2018, Saturday at Avocado Café, Baluwatar. The 5 selected applicants were Navaraj Shrestha and Shankar Pyakurel from College of Applied Sciences (CAS), Tribhuvan University (TU), Bina Maharjan from Institute of Engineering (IoE), TU, Manju Shrestha from Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES), TU and Jeevan Bhandari from Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (CDHM), TU.

The grantees (selected applicants) presented research proposals relating to groundwater arsenic contamination in Terai, climate change impacts on agriculture and its adaptation, iron and turbidity removal by sponge filtration, contamination of heavy metals in sediments of lakes of Kathmandu and WRF high resolution simulation of an extreme rainfall event in Nepal.

Comments and suggestion were provided to the presenters by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sangam Shrestha, CREEW-RGP Advisor; Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey, President of CREEW, Asst. Prof. Dhiraj Pradhananga, Vice-President of CREEW; Dr. Rabin Malla, Executive Director of CREEW; Dr. Shankar Shrestha and Dr. Salina Shrestha, executive members of CREEW; and supervisors Assoc. Prof. Iswar Man Amatya, IoE, TU, Dr. Dibas Shrestha, CDHM, TU and Dr. Chitra Bahadur Baniya, CAS, TU and Anushiya Shrestha, CREEW-RGP Alumni. Apart from specific comments and suggestion, all the presenters were suggested to make in-depth literature review and clearly state research gap. The presentation contents and presentation skill grantee was appreciated by all.

The supervisors and alumni acknowledged the organizers for conducting the program that contributes to uplift the capacity of young student researchers and hoped for continuation of the program. Dr. Shrestha (CREEW-RGP Advisor) wished that grantees will do quality research and submit them to journals.

Dr. Pandey concluded the program by acknowledging all the supervisors and invited guests for providing support and suggestions. He also advised the grantees to utilize the platform and network of CREEW to improve their skill and excel academically.
